We invite you to the presentation of Dr. Ramūnas Čičelis book “To Stay or to Leave? Conversations About Migration”

2025-02-05
On February 12, 2025, Wednesday, at 5:30 PM, the presentation of the latest book by a researcher at the VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute Dr. Ramūnas Čičelis, To Stay or to Leave? Conversations on Migration, will take place at The Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum (S. Daukantas St. 25, Kaunas).

In this collection of 12 interviews, poet, writer, and journalist Dr. Ramūnas Čičelis engages in conversations with prominent figures from the fields of culture, art, and science within the Lithuanian diaspora. The discussions cover both the personal life experiences of the interviewees and broader reflections on historical and contemporary Lithuanian migration abroad, as well as the frequent phenomenon of repatriation.

According to Vytautas Magnus University Professor Juozas Skirius, the well-thought-out questions and the structured flow of ideas demonstrate the interviewer’s deep familiarity with his subjects and a profound understanding of their creative contributions. Readers will likely be drawn to the candid remarks, insightful observations, and even critical comments—some of which may be controversial. However, this is natural, as for the interviewees, freedom of speech, personal liberty, and open discussion are not mere words but true values. Their statements emphasize the necessity and significance of maintaining a connection with Lithuania and fellow Lithuanians, whether on a spiritual or direct level, while also remaining open to foreign societies.

During the presentation, Dr. Ramūnas Čičelis will be joined in conversation by historian Dr. Giedrius Janauskas.

The event will be held in Lithuanian.
