On September 30, 2025, to mark the birthday of Liūtas Mockūnas, the F. and L. Mockūnas Memorial Apartment in Vilnius hosted an event from the seminar series “Unforgettable Names.” This particular event was dedicated to the memory of Liūtas Mockūnas. During the program, attendees viewed a previously unreleased interview with L. Mockūnas from Arvydas Reneckis’s video archive.
The interview was filmed in 2003 at the Mockūnas family home in Chicago, marking the 50th anniversary of the Santara-Šviesa organization. In the recording, Liūtas Mockūnas spoke about the activities and distinctive character of Santara-Šviesa, the organization’s relationship with Lithuania, and the period when its member Valdas Adamkus became President of Lithuania. The video was introduced and discussed by Dr. Daiva Dapkutė, historian and researcher at the Vytautas Magnus University Lithuanian Emigration Institute, who also shared her memories of Liūtas Mockūnas.
The screening was part of a project implemented by the Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum, the VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute, videographer Arvydas Reneckis, and the VMU World Lithuanian University. The project aims to digitize and make publicly accessible A. Reneckis’s archival footage, which documents prominent Lithuanian émigré intellectuals. The project, titled “The Great ‘Bridge-Builders’ of the Lithuanian Diaspora: Digitization and Dissemination of A. Reneckis’s Video Recordings,” is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Lithuanian Foundation.
