Review of the Interview with Prof. Aleksandras Štromas in Pasvalys

On 3 December 2025, the Green Space of the Pasvalys Marius Katiliškis Public Library hosted a review of an interview with Aleksandras Štromas. During the event, historian Dr. Daiva Dapkutė (VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute) presented key aspects of Štromas’ biography, his wartime experiences, complex moral choices, and intellectual trajectory. In the interview, Štromas discusses the importance of culture for Lithuania’s revival, the interplay between culture and politics as well as culture and religion, and addresses questions of political morality.

The event also featured the chairman of the Society for the Study of Lithuanians Worldwide Prof. Dr. Giedrius Janauskas and Rūta Pūraitė, who introduced the organisation’s activities and invited those interested to join initiatives aimed at strengthening ties with Lithuanians worldwide.

Director of the Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum, Arūnas Antanaitis, spoke about Arvydas Reneckis, emphasising the value and rarity of the preserved interview with Štromas.

After the event, the staff of the Lithuanian Emigration Institute visited the Marius Katiliškis memorial room.
