On April 23, 2024, an event took place at The Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum in honor of Lithuania’s Honorary Consul in Australia, Dr. Algis Kabaila (1925-2021). The event was held both in person and remotely via the Zoom platform. Historians Dr. Daiva Dapkutė, Dr. Giedrius Janauskas, and Prof. Egidijus Aleksandravičius shared insights into the history of the Lithuanian community in Australia, while Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Australia Darius Degutis, Algis Kabaila’s children Paul and Milda, and Lithuania’s Honorary Consul in the Northern Territory of Australia, Eglė Garrick, reminisced about Algis Kabaila and shared insights into the Lithuanian community in Australia. Prof. Juozas Augutis, the Rector of Vytautas Magnus University, shared memories of Algis Kabaila’s brother, Vytenis Kabaila.
The event was moderated by Arūnas Antanaitis, the director of The Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum. During the event, attendees had the opportunity to view a special exhibition dedicated to Dr. A. Kabaila’s memory, consisting of artifacts, documents, and photographs from his archive.
