2024-11-12

On November 16, an exhibition titled “Lithuanians on the French Riviera: Diplomat Antanas Liutkus’ Photographs, 1941-1953″ will open at the La Citadelle museum in Villefranche-sur-Mer, near Nice, France. Organized by the VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute in collaboration with The Valdas Adamkus Presidential LibraryMuseum, this exhibition, previously presented in Lithuania, was shown in Kaunas last year and subsequently toured across Lithuania. This week, it will reach France as part of the Lithuanian cultural season in the country.

The exhibition showcases the photographs of diplomat Antanas Liutkus (1906-1970), capturing Lithuanian life on the Riviera. These works offer not only a creative perspective but also a personal historical testimony of the Lithuanian community’s life in refugee camps and daily life after World War II. The exhibit at the La Citadelle museum will also feature Emilija Škarnulytė’s modernist installation, Tethys.
