On February 12, 2025, the presentation of the latest book by a researcher at the VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute Dr. Ramūnas Čičelis, To Stay or to Leave? Conversations on Migration, took place at The Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum. During the event, historian Dr. Giedrius Janauskas engaged in a discussion with Dr. Ramūnas Čičelis.

This collection of 12 conversations features poet, writer, and journalist Dr. Ramūnas Čičelis speaking with prominent figures in Lithuanian émigré culture, art, and science. The topics range from the personal experiences of the interviewees to broader reflections on historical and contemporary Lithuanian migration abroad and frequent repatriation.

According to Vytautas Magnus University professor Juozas Skirius, the well-thought-out questions and coherent flow of ideas demonstrate the interviewer’s deep knowledge of his subjects and an understanding of their creative contributions. Readers may find the conversations striking for their openness, insightful observations, and even critical remarks, which may not be universally accepted. However, this is to be expected, as freedom of speech, individuality, and open discussion are not mere words for the interviewees but fundamental values. Their statements emphasize the necessity and significance of maintaining a connection—whether spiritual or direct—with Lithuania and fellow Lithuanians while remaining open to multicultural societies.
