Since 2006 the Lithuanian Emigration Institute has been publishing a scholarly journal called Oikos (from the Greek word meaning home) devoted to discussing contemporary migration processes involving Lithuania and other countries, the migration policies, problems of diaspora history and culture. The journal publishes original scholarly research and review articles, critical notices, and archival documents. In order to foster interdisciplinary research it also publishes the results of scholarly research in sociology, anthropology, literary studies, history of literature, theater studies, history of migration policy, history of the diaspora, and related disciplines.
Articles are published in Lithuanian and English. Submissions are evaluated by two reviewers assigned by the Oikos Editorial Board.
Articles should not exceed 40,000 characters in length, while reviews should be at least 10,000 characters in length. Articles exceeding, or reviews falling short of, the recommended length should be discussed beforehand with the Editorial Board.
Articles must meet standard academic requirements. These include a statement of the research purpose; an indication of the overall state of research with respect to the problem under analysis; a statement of the conclusions reached; and a disclosure of the sources and of the literature used. The text must include summary (from 600 to 1000 characters long) and keywords in English. Footnotes consecutively numbered must be placed at the bottom of the page. Quotations are to be placed within double quotation marks without changing the font. The article must end with a bibliography.
At the end of the article the author(s) must indicate his, her, or their name(s) and surname(s), institution(s), academic degree(s), electronic address(es), and telephone number(s).
