The exhibition “The Lozoraitis Family – Diplomacy of Hope: A Century in the Service of the State”

2024-09-27

On September 20, 2024, at the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, the opening of the exhibition ‘The Lozoraičiai – Diplomacy of Hope: A Century for the Benefit of the State,’ dedicated to the Year of Diplomats Lozoraičiai, took place. One of its curators is a researcher from the Vytautas Magnus University Lithuanian Emigration Institute, historian Dr. Asta Petraitytė-Briedienė, who, together with the NMKČ Art Museum curators Dr. Iveta Dabašinskienė, Kristina Liepinaitė, and Kristina Stankaitė, organized this exhibition. Notably, the youngest member of the Lozoraitis dynasty, Daina Lozoraitis, daughter of Ambassador Kazys Lozoraitis, attended the opening.

The exhibition features personal items from the Lozoraitis family (ranging from national costumes to children’s toys), documents (including the ‘Lozoraitis passport’), letters, and diaries. Separate displays include works donated to them by Lithuanian émigré artists, preserved in the NMKČ Art Museum collections. Photographs and videos of the Lozoraitis family capturing their daily life revive memories, especially when viewing the part of the exhibition dedicated to the ‘President of Hope.’

The exhibition catalog, prepared by the mentioned curators, supplements the story about Stasys Lozoraitis, Stasys Lozoraitis (Jr.), and Kazys Lozoraitis, a family of diplomats who upheld the flag of Lithuania’s independence throughout the 20th century.

The exhibition at the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum will be open until February 16, 2025.
