2026-01-21

On January 19, 2026, an exceptional evening dedicated to an archival interview took place at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania in Vilnius, bringing audiences back to a time when ideas about politics, art, and literature were inseparable from the pursuit of freedom. During the event, a 1989 conversation between Vaidotas Daunys and political scientist Aleksandras Štromas was screened and discussed. The interview was filmed during the 6th World Lithuanian Symposium on Science and Creativity in Chicago.

The context of the interview and its historical and cultural significance were discussed by cultural historian Darius Kuolys. The event was moderated by Ilona Strumickienė, Head of the Statehood Center at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania.

The event was held as part of the project “The Great ‘Bridge-Builders’ of the Lithuanian Diaspora: Digitization and Dissemination of Arvydas Reneckis’ Video Recordings.”
