On 14 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis announced the laureate of Global Lithuanian Awards 2020 for lifetime achievements.
“With utmost respect and gratitude we give this award to dr. Vincas Bartusevičius – a prominent scholar and social activist of the Lithuanian diaspora, a preserver and fosterer of the Lithuanian language – who passed away in 2020” – Gabrielius Landsbergis announced on “Labas rytas, Lietuva”, a TV show on the Lithuanian National Television and Radio.
Honorable Chairman of the Lithuanian Community in Germany, a founder and head of the Lithuanian Cultural Institute in Germany, an educator and social activist Vincas Bartusevičius (1939-2020) made significant contributions in researching and protecting Lithuanian heritage in Germany. The issues and destiny of the Lithuanian High School and Lithuanian Community in Germany were not lost on him and he devoted a lot of time and energy to these institutions.
Posthumous award “for the lifetime devotion to Lithuanian culture, profound scientific and social engagement, promotion of Lithuanian culture, education and historic memorabilia” will be presented to Ona Bartusevičienė on behalf of her husband.
Established in 2012, Global Lithuanian Awards aim acknowledge global professional achievements, a sincere connection and devotion of global Lithuanians, to share their stories as role models for inspiration.
