On March 9, 2023, at the invitation of the French Institute in Lithuania, Dr. Asta Petraitytė-Briedienė, a researcher at the VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute, gave a lecture titled “Cultural Diplomacy in Paris: Lithuanian Diplomats and French-Lithuanian Associations.” During the lecture, Lithuanian diplomats were presented who, while cultivating cultural diplomacy, were members, organizers, participants, and supporters of various French-Lithuanian associations, including O. Milašius, P. Klimas, J. Baltrušaitis (younger), Dr. S. A. Bačkis, S. Lozoraitis, P. Klimas (younger), S. Lozoraitis (younger), E. Turauskas, and A. Liutkus. Joint cultural activities not only united Lithuanian and French diplomats but also prominent French figures in science, culture, politics, and society, among whom J. Ganeval, E. Pezet, H. de Montfort, M. Schumann, G. Matore, and A. Silvaire were mentioned. Archival documents testify that Lithuanian cultural diplomacy in Paris was influenced by the currents of international and local politics, which corrected the programs and lists of participants in French-Lithuanian (and joint events with local Latvians and Estonians) events.
