On September 7, 2023, the VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute received a visit from the wife of the first Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Argentina (1992-2000), Algimantas Rastauskas (1935-2020), Nelida Rastauskienė, as well as their daughters Ariana Rastauskaitė-Kairevičienė and Daniela Rastauskaitė-Draugelis. The meeting was attended by the Director of the VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute, Professor Egidijus Aleksandravičius, Professor Dalia Kuizinienė, Dr. Daiva Dapkutė, Dr. Asta Petraitytė-Briedienė, VMU HMF vice dean Dr. Giedrius Janauskas, and the Director of the Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum, Arūnas Antanaitis. The participants of the meeting discussed the historical legacy of Honorary Consul Algimantas Rastauskas in Argentina, as well as issues related to the preservation, research, access, and dissemination of the archives of Lithuania’s diplomatic service and the Lithuanian community in Argentina.
