On December 1, 2023, the Vytautas Magnus University Lithuanian Emigration Institute and the Department of Lithuanian Studies organized a scientific conference titled “Birutė Pūkelevičiūtė’s Creative Shifts in the Context of Exile and Lithuanian Cultural Space.” The conference was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Lithuanian expatriate writer and actress Birutė Pūkelevičiūtė. The event featured presentations on Birutė Pūkelevičiūtė’s literary works, theatrical activities, participation in Lithuanian expatriate communities, as well as the various stages of her life in exile and in Lithuania. The conference delved into reflections on literary and theatrical pursuits in both the expatriate and Lithuanian contexts. Additionally, the conference explored the analysis of women from Birutė Pūkelevičiūtė’s generation, focusing on their literary and cultural contributions in the diaspora.
