Invitation to the Presentation of Prof. Egidijus Aleksandravičius Book “Playing with Matches”

2024-05-07

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 6 p.m., the presentation of the book “Playing with Matches” by Prof. Egidijus Aleksandravičius, Director of the Lithuanian Emigration Institute at Vytautas Magnus University, will take place at The Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum (S. Daukanto St. 25, Kaunas).

“If someone were to ask today who this book is for, I would answer in advance (and in the long run) with a prepared sentence: it is intended for those who begin to sense that life loses its meaning when we stop asking ‘why?’ Sooner or later, it leads to increasingly boring explanations of what happens to us in one or another area of public existence, where our country fits in. Under the common title ‘Playing with Matches’ (this is also the name of my penultimate article published on lrt.lt), the articles in the book were written over the past six years. The reader will easily understand that this is a period increasingly shaken by the pandemic and the Russian war against Ukraine, which disrupted the established normalcy, tempting us to contemplate those characteristics of our communal existence that would not have been so sharply highlighted at another time.” – Egidijus Aleksandravičius.

Interview with the author of the book.

During the presentation, there will be a discussion about various life “whys.” The event will be attended by the author, E. Aleksandravičius, the book’s compiler, journalist and public figure Birutė Garbaravičienė, and moderated by Lolita Varanavičienė, the head of the publishing house “Tyto alba.” You are all warmly invited.
